EVE Online News – New Player Training Sessions Scheduled

Few EVE Online players would deny the steep learning curve that the game presents to new players. In an effort to help  newbs over the proverbial hump, CCP has put together an interesting list of "seminars" to help out. The first session, "Modules", will take place on October 15th.

  Here is the initial schedule of sessions we are planning to run. New players can participate by joining the "New Player Training Sessions" channel in game at the listed times. We will also be advertising the sessions in the rookie corporations and Rookie Help Chat channel during the event times.

EVE Online News - New Player Training Sessions Scheduled

EVE Online News – Winter Expansion Named

During today's live cast, the EVE Online team announced the name of the annual winter expansion. Called "Rubicon", the expansion will release on November 19th and will bring some brand new, interesting features into the game.

Rubicon represents the defining moment when the scales of intergalactic power will shift irrevocably to players, the immortal capsuleers. It expands the unmatched autonomy that EVE’s pilots have over their massive game universe at the expense of its four main factions and gives them a greater arsenal with which to build up and tear down the alliances within.

In EVE Online: Rubicon, empowered players wage guerilla-style warfare against their opponents, raid their space and erode industrial power from deep behind enemy lines. Focused on individual and small fleet activity, new quick-strike options offer a powerful war tactic and a fresh style of victory in EVE’s “sandbox” universe.

This November will also see a new set of mobile, player-owned structures created to support action outside of the safety of the hangar. Meant for both solo and group use, they accentuate and diversify gameplay for pilots seeking to find their homes amongst the stars.

Rubicon continues where Odyssey left off with new exploration content and a versatile new line of faction ships that are perfect for navigating and infiltrating the nearly 8,000 solar systems of the EVE Universe. In addition, the Marauder, Electronic Attack Frigate, Interceptor and Interdictor class hulls head back to the shipyards for re-engineering amongst other balancing changes. New certificate and ship identification systems will help novice players ease into one of the world’s most indisputably deep games and give veteran players a greater sense of what to accomplish next.

EVE Online News – Vegas Event October 18-20th

CCP Games is bring EVE Online, Valkyrie and DUST514 to Sin City, Las Vegas, Nevada from October 18-20. During the event, players can take part in roundtable discussions, listen in to developer panels, take part in tournaments and much more.

EVE Online News – Winter Expansion to Be Revealed in Live Cast

EVE Online is inviting interested players to view a Twitch.tv event in which the team will reveal the Winter Expansion for 2013. The event will take place on Thursday, September 26th at 3:00 p.m. EST / 12:00 p.m. PST.

Programming will include Senior Producer Andie Nordgren recapping the very successful recent past in EVE Online before exploring the future vision for the legendary MMO that’s grown subscribers year over year for 10 years straight. Then an in depth winter expansion reveal with game designers going over the majority of its features including some concept art for upcoming ships.

EVE Online News – Talking to CCP About Valkyrie with Owen Oâ

CCP's EVE: Valkyrie made quite a splash during the recent summer conventions. We managed to catch up with Owen O'Brien (who recently joined the team) to talk more about the groundbreaking game. See what he had to say before heading to the comments to chat.

Owen came from DICE and worked on Mirror’s Edge. So we started our conversation on where do you exactly begin with something like Valkyrie? Owen explained that the core game play is the key element to the game. The demo was so striking to fans and took full use of the Oculus Rift that players really connected with the full VR experience of flying and fighting in space. That is the most important part of the project for him, the core game play. Now that he has settled into working at CCP he is finally getting to the best part of his job as Executive Producer which is playing through the game. EVE-VR was a very short intense experience so a lot of what the team is working on right now is how to expand on that. Owen said that setting the expectations for development begin with making sure the core mechanics are solid. The creators of the demo ensure that part but the real fun begins when they can expand on the space dog fight scenarios.

EVE Online News – DICE Studios’ Owen O’Brien to Head Valkyrie

CCP Games has announced that DICE Studios' Owen O'Brien has joined the team and will produce EVE: Valkyrie, the virtual-reality spaceship dogfighting game in development at the company’s Newcastle, UK studio.

<> O’Brien joins CCP following a long career at the award-winning game development studio DICE in Stockholm, Sweden, owned by publisher Electronic Arts. At DICE, O’Brien led production of the critically acclaimed game Mirror’s Edge, which was heralded for its creativity and groundbreaking take on the first-person action genre.
